Memories of my Pa where do I start. I
Amy June Knightremember being really little and Pa always being Santa but to me he wasn't Pa in a suit he was the scary man in the red suit.
School holidays were always spent up at Rylestone with Pa and Trin. I remember Pa sitting in the lounge singing away to his records or yelling at the football refs if he thought they had made a mistake especially if his beloved Tiges were playing. Playing Carmen Sandiago was something we use to do together and being not to good at Geography and only being young his help and guidance was always appreciated.
I will always remember Christmas 2016 when he met my boyfriend for the first time he looked Tristen dead in the eyes and said 'You look after my girl or you will have me to answer to' this made us all laugh.
He was always there for me no matter what the situation. I will love and miss you everyday Pa but I know your back with Trin who you so desperately missed once she passed. I will be forever greatful that I got to see you one last time to give you a hug and a kiss and let you know how much I love you. Rest easy Pa xxx
Most of my memories of Pa revolve around Rylstone. I used to love going on the bush walks and the stories he would tell along the way, even if they were occasionally the same stories. The mandatory Carmen San Diego game everytime I visited and both him and Trin would always sit with us and watch and offers pointers if we were heading in the wrong direction. The main thing for me will always be the graduation to the ride on lawn mower, being small I was so chuffed the day when he said I was finally tall and big enough to sit on the seat and drive it myself and I would mow the paddocks for hours for him.
Adam KnightPa also had a massive love for all sports which I shared and still do today can remember he would call me in when a cricket test was starting so we could watch the first ball bowled together which to me became something special as I was still playing competitively myself at the time and always had the footy on he loved the footy and his tiges
I will always remember the good times shared with Pa and although my life has taken me to Melbourne nowadays and the visits became few and far between the proudest moment was being able to allow him to meet my 2 beautiful girls and knowing how proud of me he was.
Pa we will miss you always, but never forget you. And as promised on that last day I saw you we will save you a seat at our wedding front and centre!!!!
My favorite memory with Pa was our pre-dinner toast where we raised our glasses and said 'Up Ya Kilt!'.
James Edward KnightNot long after coming on the scene I came home late and drunk. tracy was ropeable, Pa said to her its ok love, he looked over at me with a smile and said" yeah son I can remember doing that but the lumpy bits used to get me' With that I didn't know a person could throw up their toenails. been sick quite a few times since then but this has stuck with me thanks PA.
Adrian KnightWhere to start with memories?
Tracy Louise KnightMy earliest memory with dad I was about 3 years old I had been in hospital and dad and I were sitting on a station somewhere waiting for the train to take us home to mum and I was very excited.
I remember picnics up the mountains, We would stop at Bilpin on the way and buy huge paper grocery sacks of apples freshly picked from the trees that would last for months. Fresh food was very important to both mum and dad they said they would rather spend their money on fresh food rather than doctors bills.
I remember when dad and I were both working in the city I would sometimes get a lift to work with him rather than catch the train. I would get into the van in my Pj's and dad would wake me up with about 15 minutes of the trip left and I would pull the curtains and get dressed for work loving the extra sleep I'd had dad knew how much I loved my sleep!!
I remember visiting him at work at the Blood Bank and getting milkshakes and being in awe of and a little bit frightened of the fridges full of bottles and bags of blood and listening to the stories of how much mess it made when one was accidently dropped and smashed. When I was in 4th form dad gave my science teacher a heap of glass slides and blood typing solution so that the whole class could see what their blood type was I was so proud of my dad that day of his job.
I have so many wonderful memories that there are just too many to list here but these were a few of the early ones.
Dad was always so proud of all 5 of his kids and was there for us no matter what. I will miss my dad for as long as I live but he has gone to be with the love of his life my mum. They were separated by death for 7 years the longest years of his life and he missed her every single day. I believe he has sent us several signs to let us know that they are together again and happy.
Rest in peace with mum love you always and forever Tracy
In the early 1950’s my brother-in-law, Alf, had a motor bike with a sidecar.
Mel WallaceOne of my earliest fond memories, when I was about 6 years old, is of Alf and that motor bike, taking me to school and sometimes picking me up in the afternoon.
The trip between home at Artarmon and school at Lane Cove wasn’t far, about 4 kilometers, but it was very exciting and always drew an interested crowd of kids at school.
I have 60 years of memories with my Dad Alfred James Mulligan.
Maureen ByrnesI think one of my favourites would have to be when my husband Robert was working on the refurbishment of the old Lidcombe Hospital. Dad was a Geriatric Nurse there when we were kids in the 1960's.
The hospital was converted into a new Estate with each ward becoming 2 apartments and Robert spoke to the Site Manager from Austral Land about dad working there and he was more than happy for dad to visit the site.
I drove dad down there and we received a guided tour by the Site Manager and along the way he asked dad multiple questions about the buildings and what each one was used for. He was amazed at all the information dad remembered and actually took notes.
The look on dads face while we were walking around and how proud he was when he was thanked very warmly for his visit and the information he was able to provide them with just made both of us so happy to be able to give him the memories and so much joy. We took heaps of photos on the day which I had printed and some put into a frame for him to keep.
I still remember this day like it was yesterday.
